I just wanted to give you the update on Freddie (Frieda, as we often call her still): she had her MRI recently and they have diagnosed her with inoperable neck and spinal injuries (congenital, we think, just as many Bassets have). Her ribs seem to have been injured at some time as well. Nevertheless, we’re somewhat relieved–for her own sake–that she won’t have to undergo extensive surgery. She seems to do just fine when she has her medication (3 Gabapentin pills each day to calm the nerves around her spine). She is getting to be much more of a lover and we’ve learned how to handle her delicately and make her feel trusting and protected. She loves her home, her bed, her beagle sister, and seems to be an all-around happy dog. And I swear she gets cuter and funnier each day. We are so blessed to have found her–thank you so much for helping with her rescue! I’m attaching a picture our recent holiday picture. When I get some of my good close-ups of Frieda, I’ll pass those along too. I’m in love with her. That face!
I hope you had/are having wonderful holidays. All the best to you and your family for the Happiest New Year yet.
Sincerely,
Dawn, Eric, Snooper, and, of course, Freddie the Super Basset!
