Help! I Lost My Dog!
- Call the local police in the town where the dog was lost and report the dog as missing, Give as much information as possible (breed, coloring, size, markings, collar color, microchipped?)
- Provide photos of your pet and post them on social media especially lost and found pet groups, town pages, etc. to get the word out.
- Sightings & fliers are key! Make fliers and give them out in the neighborhood where the dog went missing. Post on local bulletin boards and local businesses to get the word out.
- If there is a sighting, ask people in that area to check their security cameras to see in which direction your dog was heading.
- A lost dog will go into survival mode. They will look for a food and water source. If they locate one, they will most likely stay in the area, Depending on how long the dog is missing, they may not answer to their name. If the dog is skittish, a trap may need to be set to capture the dog. The local animal control or shelters can assist if a trap is needed.
- If there is a sighting, set up a feeding station and a trail camera if possible to ensure the dog is in the area and develops a routine. Once you know their routine, it will be easier to contain the lost pet.
- Your pets should have collars or harnesses with your contact information and should be microchipped with a registered chip that includes up-to-date contact information. This is the best way for you be reunited with your lost dog!
